Skills and Population
It is the IoD’s view that Guernsey benefits from the temporary and permanent entry of citizens from other countries as visitors, skilled workers, students and migrants.
Accordingly, the primary focus of Guernsey’s population controls should be on encouraging immigration by people who bring with them entrepreneurial skills and a capacity to add diversity to the Guernsey business environment, as well as people who have the skills and experience that help meet the current and future needs of business and industry.
Mission & Training Provision
The IoD believes that immigration has a role to play in both addressing the decline of Guernsey’s economically active residents, and the impact of the island’s ‘brain drain’, provided it is planned, focussed and targeted to help meet the identified needs of business and the community.
Through links with the Guernsey Training Agency, the IoD provides world-class training for local directors which includes:
- Certificate in Company Direction
- Diploma in Company Direction
- Accelerated Certificate in Company Direction
- Introductory Certificate in Board Readines
Key information & achievements
- Regular meetings with States of Guernsey Deputies and civil servants to discuss population management policies
- Engagement with local businesses to gauge their changing skill set requirements
- The development of an IoD Digital Skills for Leadership programme in conjunction with the GTA
- Participation in a working party across Guernsey's main business groups to present a unified lobby voice
Raising standards of local directors
Chartered Directors are acknowledged as having both the technical expertise and practical experience to ensure they are able to have a dramatic and positive effect on the success of their organisations.
